Tips for Prayer!
Updated: Mar 21, 2020
Most teens see prayer is a chore, a favor request, a parent pleaser or a time waster, however we need to start seeing prayer as a gift because that's what it is! Prayer is not as complicated or intimidating as it sound, and as all things do, it gets easier and more fruitful with practice. This is my challenge to you, for 1 week make the effort to spend 15 minutes with the father every day. You can do that by reading the bible / daily readings, saying a decade, meditating on the crucifix, or offering up a random act of kindness. When we talk to God we speak with first our hearts and then our voices. While vocal prayer is of upmost importance in our prayer life contemplative prayer is one of the greatest tools the holy spirit uses to change our hearts. One of my favorite ways to pray contemplatively is to simply turn on some catholic Latin music and just let God work with your heart. It is hard to explain, you just say "Here I am lord this is what I have to offer make me better." Then let him fix you. Let the father breath in you. The music sets a background and helps you not be so distracted, it paints a calm atmosphere for worship. Hey, it won't always be easy you'll have days when the distractions are plentiful your eyes wonder from the page, or you just aren't getting the satisfactory kiss of the holy spirit. Its going to happen but the father uses those discouragements to see if you will fight through them and become determined. Remember that distractions are only a big deal if we make them a big deal.
