Loving the Mass

Have you met those people who look forward to nothing like they do to mass? How on earth did they get from...oh no I have to go waste time in boring Church to...I love going to Church its so incredible? Now I'm not quite to that point yet but I think I am slowly getting there. First I think a lot of the boredom part comes from simply not understanding the full extent if everything that happens. Being Catholic my whole life I'm so used to the order of the Mass that I never really payed close attention to what all what's happening and therefore never understood the beauty of it. Two years ago I started playing violin in my church choir. And I cannot tell you how much this has helped me. When I got there I was overwhelmed by the amount of music I had to keep track of...I got used to it that helped me really get used to the order of the mass. I had to always know exactly what was going on to get everything ready for the next piece. So I came to really know the parts of the mass. And therefore I started paying much more attention and started to realize how much meaning there was behind EVERY SINGLE WORD. And it's really amazing. (I'm going to follow up with some posts diving into some of the prayers so be on the lookout!) So I really encourage you to get involved in the mass...play an instrument, become an alter server, be an usher, it doesn't really matter what you do just get involved and I think it will really help you understand the mass much better that you currently do. And then in time you will come to love it! -Kateri
